Monthly decoiler maintenance

Checking and adjusting decoiler chain tension and lubricating the decoiler chain

Operators should make sure there is adequate decoiler chain tension and that the docoiler chain is lubricated.

WARNING! Remove steel from roll-former and turn the isolation switch Off before proceeding.

Note – tools required: 6mm hex key, 17mm spanner (wrench), 19mm spanner (wrench), grease

Check chain tension

1. Use the 6mm hex key to loosen the rear panel cap screws. Remove the panel.

2. Move the chain side-to-side at the mid-point of its longest section (i.e., midway between mandrel sprocket and drive sprocket). If the slack is more than 10mm (25/64") from resting position, adjust the tension.

NOTE! An overly tight chain can accelerate wear on the sprockets and chain. An overly loose chain can expose components to load shock and excessive stress, and lead to a slack mandrel.

Adjust chain (if necessary)

1. Use the 19mm spanner to loosen the two securing bolts. Do not remove the bolts.

2. Use the 17mm spanner to loosen the lock nut on the jacking bolt. Then use the 17mm spanner to turn the jacking screw to move the tensioner right (to tighten chain/decrease slack) or left (to loosen chain/increase slack).

3. Tighten the securing bolts. Tighten the lock nut. Check tension again. Repeat adjustment if necessary.

Lubricate chain

Apply grease to a length of the longest portion of the chain.

NOTE! Always replace rear decoiler panel when finished with monthly maintenance.
